TOPEKS CAMPING CLUB MINUTES
Saturday June 25th, 2011
 Melvern Lake – Outlet Park, Melvern, KS


Opening: Meeting was called to order by President Elmer Burnett.

 

Roll Call: by Secretary Joyce A. Neiswender with 21 families present – Visitors included Jana Miller, guest of Elmer & Donna Burnett, Chelsea Love, friend of Chelsea Bower and Keaton Remp, grandson of Ray and Norma Remp.

 

TreasurerŐs Report:  Treasurer Chuck Hoffmeister gave the TreasurerŐs report:    

$  950.81 -  Checking

                                                                                                $  107.03 -  Petty Cash

                                                                                               $1,057.84 – Total

 

This report does not include bills for the hamburger and hot dogs from this meeting.

 

Announcements:  Elmer announced we have had two mishaps this weekend – Norma Remp fell while playing with her grandson and injured her nose and knee, Wayne Christensen had a brace holding his awning fall and hit him on the head and eye.

 

Leonard Freeman in hospital with kidney stones.  We wish all these members a speedy recovery from their injuries and illness.

 

Elmer announced that he received a call from Randy & Kate Fisher, former members of our club.  They are planning to camp with us in July.  Elmer announced that Terry and Andrew Christensen were at an out-of-state Boy Scout Camp.

 

Birthdays and anniversaries for the month of June were recognized. 

Elmer announced he had reserved the Shelter House here at Melvern Outlet for the Halloween Campout which will be held the weekend of September 30 thru October 2nd.

 

Old Business: None

 

New Business:  Elmer announced that the next campout will be July 22-24 at Michigan Valley - Loop A at Pomona Lake.  Betty Siple and Genevieve Collins will be in charge of the Annual Taco Salad supper for this campout.  Genevieve asked if anyone has tomatoes to bring them - chopped and in a sealed bowl. Betty Siple reports that she has been busy cooking meat and getting supplies for the Annual Taco Salad supper to be served Saturday night.

Please remember to bring your table service and your own drink.  Rex and Genevieve and Bernie and Dorothy Bower will both be bringing tomatoes.  If you have a few extra please bring them, washed and Betty will chop them.    We eat at 5:30 pm on Saturday evening.

 

 

 

 

 

Beverly Johnson and Doris Detherage discussed the type of ribs to purchase for the August 26 -28 campout at Cedar Ridge at Bloomington.  Elmer stated they are in charge of purchasing the ribs and whatever they decide will be fine with the club.  Beverly stated they will be purchasing riblets, which are less expensive than the baby back ribs. 

 

Discussion was held on the Halloween Campout – Sept 30 - Oct 2nd – Jim & Dawnda Bower has offered to bring a large black kettle to put chili in for this campout.  Motion was made and approved that everyone make chili and it will be put in the black pot over an open fire.

Also, the kettle is to be used to pop corn on Friday night. 

 

Chaplain Russ stated for those wanting to attend, there will be a church service at the Pavillion here in the Outlet Area of the Lake at 9:30 am on Sunday morning. 

 

The ŇCooksÓ at this campout (Russ, Nick and Elmer) were given a hand of appreciation for cooking the hamburgers and hotdogs.  Everyone enjoyed a very nice afternoon meal.

 

Elmer announced that anyone going into Melvern for the parade and carnival to take their lawn chairs.  Parade to be at 7:00 PM.  There will be a carnival, concessions, home-made ice cream, Topeka High Drum Line will perform in parade, then at the basketball court, and

The Rice Family Band will be performing during the evening. 

 

Most of the Topeks did go into Melvern where everyone had a great time at the Melvern Sunflower Days. That homemade ice cream was especially good.

 

There was one mishap – ElmerŐs great nephew (18 months old) had to be taken to Stormont Hospital by ambulance when he broke away from his parents and ran into the side of a vehicle just before the parade started.  Reports later said the hospital checked him over and released him that evening.  We are thankful to hear that he only had some scratches and bruises. 

 

FOR SALE – 1972 WINNEBEGGO Motor Home

Adalee and Dale Miller have decided to quit  camping and have for sale their classic 1972 Winnebeggo 18 ft motor home. It is in Good shape, with near new tires and wheels, air conditioner, stove, and mircowave. All the foam in the cushions has been replaced, it has a ladder and rail with a storage pod on top, a newer 4000 watt Onan generator and a metal spare tire cover.  Please contact Adalee or Dale for information.
